World Multiple Sclerosis Day 2023 – Teleflex sponsored international MS sailing event in Greece
Every year, the 30th of May is designated World Multiple Sclerosis Day to raise awareness of this chronic disease. MS is a neurogenic condition with a variety of symptoms. The cause is currently unknown. The 2023 World MS Day theme is ‘Connections’. MS Connections is all about building community connection, self-connection and connections to quality care.
Therefore, Teleflex was a partner of the international Multiple Sclerosis sailing event in Greece, which was organized by Oceans of Hope and the MS Society of Greece. This event took place from May 6th to 19th, 2023. 120 sailors from 14 countries cruised around the beautiful coastline of Athens. This sailing event was fully accessible for MS patients, and every crew member had to take an active role since, uniquely, every crew member had Multiple Sclerosis.
The opportunity afforded by this sailing experience was to develop confidence and skills by serving as a full crew member, leaving one’s comfort zone and accomplishing physical activity that wouldn´t otherwise be possible. In addition to the sailing trips, two evening events were also organised.
The first evening event took place on May 12th, when all the participants sat down together to enjoy a dinner at a superb location next to the sea in the marina of Alimos, accompanied by music from Greek artists, including the internationally famous Monika, who sang while playing the piano.
The Teleflex Urology Care Greece team attended the events held on May 12th and 19th, 2023. These consisted of a gala event with all stakeholders and sailing trip participants and a full day event with the wider MS community to raise awareness and to enjoy the benefits of social connectedness, physical activity and therapeutic sailing for persons with MS.
